August 1, 2007This fund was established to help support our friend and fellow immigrant Huiquan Chang, after his only son Jinzhou was shot and killed in an armed robbery in the city of El Cerrito on July 30th. The news article can be found here. Jinzhou was a loyal friend and a caring son. He attended college and helped his father with work every chance he got. After seeing his father's decline in health because of his heavy workload, Jinzhou wanted to do well in school, so his father could have a life he deserves. The father, Huiquan Chang, does not have many friends in the US. He is honest, humble and a very hard working man, who has never asked for help. For the past six years, Huiquan worked tirelessly as a handyman to raise enough money to bring his son to the United States. He was driven, despite the financial burden, because he believed that with his son in the U.S., they could achieve a good life in America, working hard but being together. Chang is under tremendous emotional stress and is facing a challenging road ahead with the loss of his only family member in the United States. On top of the emotional trauma, he also faces a financial burden, including mortuary services, funeral services, and hospital fees. As his friends and fellow Chinese, we can support him emotionally with words of encouragement and prayer. If you are, as are we, also moved to support him financially, you can donate to a fund established to help him offset some of the monetary burden associated with this tragedy. If there are any questions you would like to ask prior to donating, or would like to leave well wishes, please email FriendsoftheChangFamily@gmail.com Please feel free to share with others touched by this story.
